MV Republica di Genova

MV Republica di Genova

The Republica Di Genova, registered to Grimaldi Lines, capsized in the Port of Antwerp on 8th March 2007.

The 215 meter long vessel ended up on her starboard side alongside the terminal quay in the Verrebroek dock. Svitzer Salvage obtained the contract to remove the vessel. Svitzer par-buckled and thereafter refloated the vessel in October 2007, upon which her cargo of containers and cars was removed and the ship was re-delivered to her Owners for ocean towage to China.

DISA installed 8 steel wires of 72 mm diameter underneath the vessel in order to keep her in position during par-buckling operations. DISA in cooperation with Gebr. Van Leeuwen performed horizontal directional drilling under the ship from a pontoon and subsequently retracted the wires. The installation of 8 wires was conducted in in 10 days, inclusive (de)mobilization.
